Understanding the Complex Design of the Noseband
STATE-OF-THE-ART BRIDLES
A Multi-Layered Construction Designed for Comfort, Stability and Function
The Equemist noseband has been carefully developed using a multi-layered construction. Each layer has a specific purpose, working together to support the noseband’s shape, stability, flexibility and overall comfort for the horse.
The noseband is made up of several distinct layers: a firm leather outer layer for structure, a semi-rigid internal layer to help maintain its shape, and soft inner padding that sits closest to the horse’s face.
The stitching visible on the outside of the noseband is decorative only. It does not pass through the padding and is not designed to carry load or hold the layers together. Because of this construction, it is completely normal to see a small space or gap between the layers.
This gap is intentional and forms part of the noseband’s function. It allows the noseband to move with the horse, rather than restricting movement across the sensitive facial structures. There is no internal seam that can come loose, and the presence of a visible gap does not indicate that the noseband is damaged or faulty.
Designed to Move With the Horse
The horse’s mouth, jaw and facial muscles are constantly moving, particularly when the horse is chewing, accepting the bit or working through the contact. The Equemist noseband has been designed with this movement in mind.
In earlier production, this area was lightly glued to make the finish appear more visually closed. This was done out of consideration for customers, as we understood that a visible gap could be mistaken for a fault. However, because the horse’s mouth naturally moves during use, the adhesive may begin to release over time.
This does not affect the function, safety or construction of the noseband. The noseband itself is not broken, and the release of adhesive is not considered a structural fault.
With ongoing product refinement, The Equemist has now updated production so that this gap will remain visible from the start in future deliveries, as originally intended within the design.
A Deliberate Design Feature — Not a Defect
The visible space between the layers is an intentional part of the design. It allows the noseband to maintain its shape while still offering flexibility where the horse needs it most.
This considered construction helps protect the horse’s cheek and facial structures in a way that standard noseband designs often do not. The result is a noseband that supports stability without unnecessary restriction.
Care and Support
If you notice adhesive residue or a small area where the glue has released, please be assured that the noseband remains functional and safe to use.
Customers are welcome to contact us for support. We can assist with removing any visible glue residue or, if preferred, arrange for the area to be re-glued.
The noseband and its function are not faulty or broken — this is part of the unique construction that allows the noseband to move with the horse as intended.
